It’s finally the gorgeous summer time that we all love. We all look forward to Summer arriving, and here it is. The sun is shining, the weather is great, and everyone seems much happier.
Summer is also the time we go on holiday, sit out in the sun, start swimming again, and enjoying the outdoor elements.
Whilst we feel all that much happier it seems, we need to remember that with the glorious summer weather and holiday trips comes a few challenges, and also some things to remember to keep healthy and safe. Here are a few things to remember:
Keep sunscreen with you all the time and apply often. Children should have a SPF (sun Protection Factor) greater than 15+.
Look for a product labelled ‘broad-spectrum’ – which means it should protect against both UVA and UVB rays. The SPF indicates the amount of protection against sunburn, mainly caused by UVB rays.
You should also use a sunscreen which has four stars or more. The stars measure UVA protection, and five is the maximum.
Before you apply sunscreen on a baby under 6 month, ask your pharmacist if there is a safe one for them first, as babies don’t handle these too well, due to the way their little bodies absorb chemicals.
Keep babies and Toddlers out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, and never let them get burnt. It’s far better to have them in longer sleeves and a legionnaire type hat. ( Beechfield Kids Legionnaire Cap in sky blue )
Never let babies, toddlers, or children alone near water. Accidents happen in a flash, and you can never change what happens. Always have someone watching the children with their full attention. Not barbecueing as well or reading a book or anything else. Children are precious, and worth our time.
Lastly, it’s a great time of year, enjoy it with your family. I am always guilty of trying to do a bit more work, more house cleaning, more tidying, but now and then I have to remind myself that kids aren’t young forever, and I should enjoy them while they are!
Have fun in the sun!
